I made a mixtape.

Stuart Buchanan presents a show called New Weird Australia, an Australian experimental music show on fbi radio, that he co-hosts with Danny Jumpertz. He previously presented the international Music show Disorient, and before that Fat Planet.

He has quite a few wonderful and unique blogs, and on one of them, discontent blog, he uses to distribute mixtapes. He has recently started adding guest mixtapes and he was kind enough to ask me to put one together.

I put together a few of my favorite tracks together, all of which have been made freely available online. A few of the tracks I have already posted on my blog, but a lot of them I haven't.

You can grab the tape from Stu's blog:

3. Eskmo – San Francisco (The Rhythm)
4. Eskmo – I Dream I’m Flying
5. Backdraft – Headcharge (Eskmo Remix)

And now a little heavier...

I just dumped a heap of more chilled out stuff, I figured I better split up the the heavy from the soft so no ones head explodes.

"Bassnectar, aka Lorin Ashton, is big daddy in the bass scene and has dropped so many big tracks over the years, he’s more than earned his namesake. Always trying to push the boundaries of different sounds, Bassnectar was one of the first artists to convert me from the traditional 130-140 breakbeats so I got dude’s back. See what this bad man has been up to. You can catch him right now on his Cozza Frenzy Tour."

Here are two cuts from the album:

A wicked bassy Fever Ray remix, also chilled but so much of that 808 bass... nice hip-hop tempo around 91bpm, pretty abstract really.

Right Click/Save As or click for stream:

This one is way more large, you'll know what I mean. Lyrics are pretty dope too.

And some dub that Hosta just dropped all by Mt Eden:

Album Dump - Everyone relax.

As summer gets ever closer, and as yesturday we had our first near 40 degree day, I thought I'd dump a few recent albums on a more chillout downtempo vibe.

There's heaps here and they should keep you going for a while. Most of them are off Matam, thanks for everything!

I recommend downloading them all (maybe waiting till you're off peak as there are some serious megabytes here), making an itunes playlist, mixing a jug of some kind of ice-tea cocktail, and sitting in the front of back garden with some friends and these beats on in the background, drinks and talking into the night.

More from Error Broadcast: I Can't get enough of these guys.

Error Broadcast is a net label that only started this year.

They are responsible for both the AEED album from a few weeks back, and that really cool instrumental hip-hop compilation 'Bag Full of Nothingness' I put up a while ago. You'll notice the similarities between the album artwork between this one, and the AEED album, both done by a french artist known as 96.

They just released a free mixtape of beautiful instrumental and experimental hiphop that you can listen to in low quality here:

New Weird Australia Vol. 2

New Weird Australia Volume Two, September 2009, NWA002
Mr. Stuart Buchanan and Mr. Danny Jumpertz have a wonderfully chilled show on just before me playing an assortment of oddities from Australian artists, that you can catch every Thursday from 9:00pm or fbi 94.5 or on fbiradio.com if you're not from sunny Sydney.

They are wonderful chaps, and they've compiled another excellent showcase of experimental, ambient, instrumental and out there indie that's best listened to late late late at night (in my opinion, you may prefer to listen to it before a football match, I don't know).
It's really wicked and should most definitely be checked out here:

You should definitely RSS that.

AEED - Synesthesia

I have played quite a few singles from AEED on the show, which is why I'm stoked to be able to post this freebie.

The music is kind of like a mix between those lofi paddy synths that Tobacco uses, with a really broken but heavy Dilla drum break. Also uses samples in a cool kind of Madlib way, as long as I'm making comparisons.

Of course, it comes away sounding nothing like any of them.

It's really different, but not in an alienating way, I really REALLY like this release is basically what I'm trying to say.

Free Album: The Are - Iran (Insturmental Hip-hop Protest Album)

When I stubbled upon this Instrumental Hip-hop album, I was going to post it straight away before I'd even heard it, simply as solidarity for cause.

Just in case it wasn't hardcore gangster rap/pro-censorship I ended up giving it a quick spin, and damn, this is completely dope.

Seriously, if you like your sample based instrumental hip-hop raw and heavy (don't we all?) then this is most definately for you (/all of us).

Words from the artist:

"I started this project a while back but got side tracked with other projects. After I returned from NY a few months ago, it was one of the things I wanted to finish. After the Iran election went down and I saw the press and protest, I thought not only did I want to do this project but that it HAD to be done."

Free Album: Two Bone Giants - The Lost Art... Revamped

Some really cool, darkish downtempo instrumental hip-hop. A bit experimental, but should still get your head moving. Definately deserved of a couple of "repeate all"s.

Exclusive! Gotye - Hearts a Mess (Ilz Remix)

Super talented Hip-hop producer, Ilz was nice enough to give us this exclusive remix of Gotye's amazing "Heart's a Mess".

If I had to categorize this track, it would be somewhere around beautiful down-tempo dub/glitch hop.

He is truly super talented and having already appeared on a number of local releases (Natural Causes, Mind Over Matter) he is sure to be seen all over the big namers album in the near future.

I hope you've got a sub woofer for this one.

Daft Punk revisited...again...but this is a little different

This week on The Get By, I 'm having a Glitch-Hop special, and whilst this album doesn't exactly fit into that category, it shares the genre's love of video game sounds.

This is a quirky little thing that I personally wouldn't turn up too loud, but is fun and will put a smile on your face.

A crazy group of frenchman breathing some (badly needed IMHO) new life through remixing and recreating some Daft Punk hits that we've all probably heard one too many times
